Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest carmaker, and Malaysia’s DRB-Hicom Bhd signed an agreement to collaborate on making Volkswagen cars in the Southeast Asian country.
Volkswagen models may be assembled at a DRB-Hicom plant in Pekan, according to a statement today to the Malaysian stock exchange. Executives from the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in Singapore today, it said.
Volkswagen ended partnership talks earlier this year with Proton Holdings Bhd, Malaysia’s national automaker, as the German carmaker had “other priorities,” Proton said in June.
Proton has been seeking a strategic alliance to help bolster exports and develop new models to better compete with the likes of Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motor Co. — Bloomberg

Such a good news for automotive in Pekan. This agreement will give more potential for VW fans to buy it in more reliable price. Hope la.

There’s a good idea from Ashton Stark that make his grandfather’s 1972 Volkswagen Beetle into an electric car. The 14 year old wunderkid from Oregon spent about a year to adjust the old car fit in the 21st century modern car. Ashton, equipped the car with nine golf cart batteries and the power can move the car nearly 50 miles on less than 10 cents worth of electricity. This converted Beetle can accelerate about 45 miles per hour.
The good spirit from this young man only cost about $4,000. This invention will become a bright future for this kids. It shows old car also can be converted to eco friendly vehicle.

For the first time in Malaysia, Volkswagen launch their famous Scirocco Cup in Malaysian circuit on 19- 20 June 2010 at Sepang Circuit. The cup features Scirocco, a sport coupe build by famous German car maker, Volkswagen. This cup will absolute amazing because it use bio-compressed natural gas (Bio-CNG) technology e and it can reduce about of 80 % carbon dioxide from the car.

I’ve read news from autoblog , Proton has been in talk with Volkswagen. From report, VW looking into sharing platforms and engines with Proton. On 2007, Proton was end their alliance with Volkswagen but now they arrange new negotiation because of tough competition. Chairman declined to comment whether it involved in technical collaboration or equity tie-up with VW.
They will announce about it in next two week. Let’s wait and see..
I hope Proton won’t be sell to Volkswagen. It is one of Malaysian landmark and can’t be sell. Hope Khazanah Nasional will protect if there’s possible selling.
